Working hard on getting our new website to launch and have been a bit delayed in getting this out. Hopefully, the next one will be sent to you in its new and improved format. Anyway, this letter will be well worth reading and I promise that you will be glad for the time invested in reading it:-)
Because if you, like me, don’t put much faith in the apocalyptic Mayan calendar prophecy for 2012, then you will still have use for any ideas that can help you make 2012 your best year yet. And that’s what you will find here.
As you have probably noticed if you follow my coaching letter, I have been totally into understanding more about the 3 principles or Psychology of Mind as it is sometimes referred to. The inside out approach to happiness, joy and a generally great experience of life is incredibly satisfying to explore.
However, I always like to turn things around, shake them up and see what comes out. So this month I take a look at how our outer environment affect us. Because it does have an affect. But on what and how? When you understand that you can improve your results both quickly and easily in any area you like…
Make Your Life a Masterpiece,
Quote of the month
" There comes a time when the mind takes a higher plane of knowledge but can never prove how it got there. "
- Albert Einstein
I have been doing quite a few of my Optimum Health seminars recently. Reason being that it seems like more and more leaders are starting to see the wondrous effects that a healthier work force is having on the bottom line. This has lead me to spend even more time researching the basics of getting your cells not only to survive, but to really thrive. And just like most mental ailments keep coming back to the nature of thought, vital health is all about being environmentally conscious.
But this time my line of thought was not about the fact that if we pollute our internal environment the cells will respond by trying to adapt to their new surroundings. Much in the same way that our skin cells reacs to sunshine by increasing the production of melanine, resulting in that tanned look. On a grander scale we see this as the pH of the oceans are dropping from their normal level of 8.2 to 8.1. And all of a sudden a lot of aquatic residents are starting to struggle to stay alive, with severe consequences for the entire planet.
Nope, my train of thought went to the man made environment that we have created around us. How the demands on us keep getting higher to do more work, in less time and at a lower cost. Just consider the lives of our grand parents. They definitely had a ”harder” life but it was a lot less complex. They did the same type of work for the same employer for their entire lives. Stayed with the same person through thick and thin and didn’t need to upgrade, outsource or develop their electronic networking skills.
These are slightly different times. Not that we don’t have the same 24 hour days as then. Or, was born with the same human potential and the same amount of bioelectrical energy to draw from. It’s that there’s so much going on that we seem to be blind to how much our environment actually affect the results we can get in any given situation. Because, when we are talking success awareness of our environment is key. No matter if we’re talking a crashing computer, badly ventilated offices or any other ”little” detail that prevents you from performing at your peak.
Can a complete beginner beat a world champion?
In the same way that I would easily beat Usain Bolt at the 100 meter dash if I got to run on the track and he had to run through a waterfilled swamp, we really can’t get world class results without giving ourselves the right conditions. A well organized work place, an updated computer or any other tool you need will make any job easier. Maybe some enjoyable music playing in the background and a ergonomically deigned work space. I don’t know what that constitute for you, but make sure that you’re conditions are more well prepared Tartan track than snake infested swamp.
A word of caution. Be very aware that I’m speaking purely of performance here. Not happiness. You can be happy no matter what’s going on around you, because happiness is not something you achieve – it’s something that you were born with. We all came to this world with an amazing ability to extract fulfillment out of anything we put ouf heart and soul behind. Thus, to run in a swamp can be a increadibly fun andenergizingly challenging, but if you want to break your personal best you have to make sure to create an environment that supports you in your quest.
For example, Google has swings, adult playgrounds filled with ”toys” in their offices. Why? Because, it makes a difference for most peoples ability to stop straining for solutions and let their imagination run wild with new and wonderful ideas. Military personal, doctors and others want their environment to be clinically clean and very orderly. Cluttered spaces are not what they want when peoples lives are at stake if you can’t immediately get the right tool in an emergency.
So what kind of environment do you need to be able to break personal records? It doesn’t have to be perfect, but any way you can make it even slightly better can help all the investments that you have made in education, training and understanding of the human condition easier to convert into better results with less effort. And that is something that I think that we are all interested in…
This is the sequel to the best seller ”Good to Great” and it has already sold more than 1 million copies. Easy to understand why, because here the author takes a fresh look at the companies that have outperformed their rivals by ten times during these challenging times. Riveting conclusions from carefully made studies that can help anybody guide themselves through tough times. Well worth its weight in gold…
