The positive response after last month’s edition of LifeGold was probably the most massive so far (if you missed it you can read it here). Hundreds of people got a recommendation to start subscribing and followed up on it. Also, you shared it on Facebook in record numbers, which is further proof of what happens when you provide high levels of value for people. Thank you!
Naturally, I want to continue having that kind of positive effect this month. What came to me was a subject that I think has the potential to transform your life. Big words, especially since it will take almost no work on your part. Unless you think that clearing up a simple misunderstanding is hard work. A misunderstanding that can make personal development down right impossible unless we get it, and as soon as we see it it’s self evident…

Understanding your Misunderstandings
Once upon a time there was a philosopher who said that the most ”escape proof” prison is one that you don’t even know you’re in. Makes a lot of sense when you think about it, as it wouldn’t even occur to the prisoners to try and escape, right? In much the same way, I would argue that most of what really bothers us in life is not what is actually in our way, but rather what we mistakenly don’t even see as the real problem in the first place.
I don’t know if that statement rings a bell somewhere in the back of your mind, but regardless let me give you a metaphor that might make it clearer for you. Imagine that you have been living in a parallel universe where everything is exactly the same as here, except for one quirky little difference: A green traffic light in this dimension means stop and a red light means drive.
One day, years after having been issued your drivers license, you are magically transported to our version of the blue planet. You wake up in your bed just like any other morning. After breakfast (which naturally is plate of avocado, fresh baby spinach, broccoli and other yummy healthy stuff – or would that be a dead give away for you that something was up?;-) you get in your car and drive off for work. Do you think that you might encounter some problems on this everyday drive?
As you pull up and stop at the first green light you can’t understand why everybody behind you are honking their horns. It gets even more puzzling to you as one driver is passing you with screeching tires while gesturing wildly inside their car. When the light finally switches to red and you, slightly agitated by the events, pull out into the intersection you almost get run into by another car. This time by a wide-eyed maniac who’s flashing his lights at you as he swerves by, mere inches from causing a serious accident.
Now, will it help thinking that the streets are filled with idiots this morning? Or being more careful in the next intersection, going to a “enhance your concentration class”, listening to stress reducing self help tapes or learning to accept other people as they are? All of the above might be good ideas, but it will do very little for how accident-prone you seem to be unless you understand that you have the signals mixed up.
Because if you don’t understand the signals driving is a hazardous activity, even if you have the driving skills of a Michael Schumacher and the same sense of compassion for others as the Dalai Lama. If you actually knew that you didn’t understand them you would at least be a little better off. Because then it would be like all lights were flashing yellow and we knew it was up to us entirely to make the decisions on when to drive or stop. Thinking that we know but having completely misunderstood is the most dangerous place to be.
This goes for a lot of other situations in life where we fail to see that the common denominator of our problems is our inability to understand our misunderstandings. Like a person who goes from relationship to relationship thinking that there’s something wrong with the other sex, rather than seeing that there is one person who is there every time. Or someone who when they talk to others, unbeknownst to them, always has a slightly condescending tone in their voice and a sneer around their mouth and can’t understand why everybody’s seem to be so confrontational.
So my challenge to you this month, should you choose to accept it, is to start looking into your most accident-prone intersections of life. To view them as something fascinating, rather than weird anomalies to be avoided or rebuilt as roundabouts. To ponder if the common denominator for “things” happening to you over and over might not be the result of the world around you being spiteful and ill-minded. That your recurring problems might simply be the cause of you not having understood your misunderstandings?
Without that understanding working harder or even better will be to no avail. You will still have problems in every intersection. However, with that understanding making decisions will be as easy as stopping at red and driving on green. Your collisions with the world around you will diminish as your success and quality of life goes up exponentially for each signal you start interpreting correctly. Isn’t that worth a little self-examination?

To be able to perform at your absolute best is definitely a challenge when you’re in physical pain. This book is the best that I’ve found when it comes to alleviating pain in your back, shoulders, knees or any other part. When I had been run over by a bus and came very close to amputating my foot, it was Pete’s e-cises that got me back in shape to go running in the mornings (something the doctors had said would be impossible for me). So, from personal experience I can say that buying this book and following the exercises in it, is as good of an investment as you have ever made.
